Role of Parliament- Can we
offered to dilute it?
(Thought of the day- 25.07.2015)
India, the
world's largest democracy elects 543 Lok Sabha members through direct voting & 243 Rajya Sabha members (Intellectuals, Experts, public
figures) through indirect voting. These two August houses are the highest
bodies of this noble country and shall be treated on far with most religious pilgrimages.
The role of
Parliament is more important in
democratic country like India, when compare to other forms. The main role of
these institutions are to discuss, debate, deliberate & make policies &
bills, amendments to constitution, analyze the public issues, give direction to the country.
It was given to
understand that when we were budding democracy, there used to be more serious
debates on issues , policies etc and ethics were maintained. With aging of
democracy, the wisdom should prevail and more mature discussions are expected.
But unfortunately, we are moving in reverse direction and many bills are passed
without any serious discussion. Andhra Pradesh separation bill is one classic
example.
Presently the
Parliament sessions are on & four days passed without single fruitful
discussion. Mudslinging is going on and
looks like there is no end to it. The role of matured parliamentarians in
bringing back the house to order is clearly missing and all parties should
think about it seriously in the interest of democracy.
May be the time ripe
for looking at our parliament rules and bring out changes in such a way that minimum
mandatory hours of business has to
transact on policies, bills, question hour etc.
May be few sessions shall be exclusively allotted to settle scores and generate
more thoughts of the date for public.
RESPECT OUR DEMOCRACY BY RESPECTING PARLIAMENT.
