INDIAN TEMPLES - ARE THEY SAFE?

Indian Temples- Are they  safe?

Again one more sad incident of public stampede.  This time it is at Rajahmundry- Godavari Puskar Ghat. 35 or more common public died, hue and cry from political parties, media, religious leaders etc. People forget about it after few days. Again it may repeat in another form somewhere & the action starts again.  Mecca, kumbamela, jallikattu & many previous experiences. Have we really learned anything good from the history?  In a country with so many temples, rivers, religious affiliations, is it not appropriate to have preventive strategy in place.

Most of our temples are very old and the designs are suited to the prevailing situations at that time. Also the very few important spots are developed to suite the commercial interests prevailing during those days (centralized religious activity). Those days only few sections were allowed into temples.  With population growth, transparent temples policy, religious promotions (hope the intentions are not to divert people attention from Governments) , temple tourisms, the people visiting temples increased many fold and showing double digit growth in very popular temples like Tirupati. The increase is many fold during special occasions.

Governments have realize and there is a need to put sound preventative strategy in place. Temples are to be redesigned with traffic flow studies, VVIP/VIP protocols as part of overall preventive strategy, decentralized religious activity and many more actions are to be introduced.

INITIATE PUBLIC ACTION. PUT PRESSURE ON GOVERNMENTS TO MAKE OUR TEMPLES STAMPEDE FREE.
