MILK MARKETING IN AP –ROADBLOCKS IN CRISIS SITUATION

MILK MARKETING IN AP –ROADBLOCKS IN CRISIS SITUATION Introduction: Andhra Pradesh with over 1.1 million tons milk production in a year figures in top 5 milk producing states in India.   Once very strong state for cooperative dairies, subsequently became testing ground for MAC act, producer companies’ act and the end result is near disappearance of Coop brand Vijaya and Federation milk procurement reaching record low of 25000 litres/day. The very fact that the presence of private dairies is highest in AP shows that how the political system killed cooperatives, converted few cooperatives into family controlled producer companies with blessing of the rulers at that point of time. Heritage with coterie of family controlled producer companies completely spoiled and disturbed the three tier dairy cooperative system. The end result is unhealthy competition, monopoly of private dairies, coterie operations in milk pricing. In the process the milk rates paid are lowest when co...

VALUE CHAIN ANALYSIS FOR BANANA IN AP

VALUE CHAIN ANALYSIS FOR BANANA IN AP Present status AP stands first in the nation in banana cultivation with 2.6 lakh acres under cultivation with 64 lakh MT production. Rayalseema with Pulivendala as hub emerged as major cultivator of Robusta variety (green banana). The other varieties grown in the state are Chekkarakeli, Karpuram, and Amruthapani. Certain pockets in Krishna-Godavari delta, Nandyal area of Kurnool and Salur area of Vijayanagaram are known for growing these varieties.     About 25000 MT of green banana from Rayalseema region is getting exported to Middle East and still have great export potential. Progressive farmers from Rayalseema with moral support from late YSR could break the dominance of Nanded variety in Delhi market and penetrated to north markets through Delhi. The advantage of Rayalseema green banana to Nanded variety is its keeping quality, as it is grown in red soils with scanty rain fall. Existing markets:       ...

INJUSTICE DONE TO AP- WILL THE WOUNDS HEAL?

INJUSTICE  DONE TO AP- WILL THE WOUNDS HEAL? Earlier Andhra –Telangana Agitations:    AP bifurcation is the best example of how weak leadership can do irreparable damage to the citizens and nation. In 1953 after demise of Potti Sriramulu (who was on fast unto death for 50 days), separate Andhra state was formed by separating Telugu speaking areas from Madras state with Kurnool as capital. In 1956 united AP was formed by combining Telugu speaking parts of Nizam state with coastal and Rayalaseema districts with Hyderabad as capital city. Though there were separate Telangana movement (Jai Telangana) in 1969 lead by Late M Chenna Reddy and Jai Andhra movement in 1972 lead by Tenneti Viswanadham, A C Subba Reddy, Gouthu Lachanna, Kakani Venkataratnam, and others, they were successfully put to an end by strong leadership prevailed in the form of Mrs Indira Gandhi at centre and Kasu Brahmananda Reddy at state level. After these movements, there are no major di...

WHY STEP MOTHER TREATMENT TO ANDHRA PRADESH?

WHY STEP MOTHER TREATMENT TO ANDHRA PRADESH? AP was bifurcated into two states against the wishes of people and without the consent of the state assembly. AP separation left a black mark on our constitution, democracy as the issue was not debated, discussed, deliberated in parliament at length and bill was passed by closing the parliament doors and cutting off the live telecast. Both UPA & NDA played the cards to their perceived advantage. Unfortunately the regional parties either maintained silence or followed his/her master voice (HMV) and ignored their responsibilities.  AP separation was different from earlier states reorganization happened in 2000, as the capital cities remained with original states i.e., UP, MP, Bihar and newly carved states were to built new capitals. In case of AP Hyderabad (Fifth largest city & second largest IT city of India) remind with the newly carved state Telangana.  The whole issue was handled in such a hurry as if heavens are...
