EMPOWERING RURAL POOR- GROUND REALITIES

EMPOWERING RURAL POOR- GROUND REALITIES Global Perspective: Look at African continent, even after several decades of independence there is no significant improvement in poverty situation. International agencies are dumping food, medicines etc, but not the resources required for their sustainable development. The colonial rulers are replaced by their dark skinned counterparts and the loot is being continued under the cover of self rule controlled by colonial white Sahibs. It’s clear the developed world seldom give them fish to eat but not willing to teach them how to fish. Despite so much of external aid, the Bangladesh poverty more or less remains the same. It is shocking to hear from horse mouth (an international gender development consultant) that the NGOs guest houses in Bangladesh are of minimum 4 star hotel standards located in prime locations with lakefronts etc and run into 200 to 300 rooms capacity.   It is clearly evident that the international aid is bein...

Being tropical country with different climatic zones we are in a position to grow variety of fruits round the year and Indian food and fruits taste better due its natural conditions. Recent challenges: The impact of inappropriate minimum support prices, lack of timely credit facilities, storage facilities, failure of APMCs, globalization, technology, rising input costs, erratic prices, inconsistent govern...

AFRICAN POVERTY- WHOM TO BLAME??

AFRICAN POVERTY- WHOM TO BLAME?? Poverty in Africa- The causes The facts about poverty and its root causes do not stop our political leaders telling us how generous we are to Africa. Of how much they care about doing something about it. And of how proud they are (and we should be too) of the amount rich countries give in aid. It’s time our political leaders gave us an honest account and told us the truth about the world’s relationship with Africa. The true story of Africa’s billion dollar losses   The Global South is being drained of resources by the rest of the world and it is losing far more each year than it gains. Africa alone loses few hundred billion dollars each year to the rest of the world. This is mainly in profits made by foreign companies, tax dodging and the costs of adapting to climate change. Whilst rich countries often talk about the aid their countries give to Africa, this is in fact much less than what Africa loose each year. The idea that we are ...
