FLORAL TRIBUTES TO NTR (ANNA GARU) - MESSIAH OF POOR
Floral tributes to NTR (ANNA GARU) Messiah of poor and a man who won hearts of millions including his bitter critics.
In 1999, I was camping at remote tribal areas in East Godavari Dist for conducting political analysis for a friend of mine who was contesting election from Rajahmundry. Tribals in remote areas could recall only two leaders names, NTR and Indira Gandhi. Then CM CBN Garu and Sonia Gandhi ji names are recalled as NTR alludu and Indiramma Kodalu. It’s incredible for a soul come from glorious cinema world living with all luxuries to internalise with ground realities and quickly found a permanent place in their hearts.
NTR is the architect of welfare programs in AP and with utmost dedication he could implement free rice to poor, property rights to women, mid day meals, social welfare hostels and the list is unending. The greatest tribute to NTR is that most of these programs became national programs and being implemented across the nation.
His commitment to farmers is proved beyond any doubts through Velugodu , Telugu Ganga , Handriniva and few other projects . NTR’s vision in irrigation is highly acknowledged and even his bitter critic YSR had to chant NTR mantras to attract voters.
NTR proved that he is towering and uncompromising personality by questioning the Indira Gandhi authority over state Government and kept the Telugu pride at its peak. In fact the delhi darbar which used to chant Madrasi mantra started chanting Telugu mantra. The credit for today’s federal democracy with decent centre - state sharing mechanism is largely belongs to Anna Garu. That is the power of NTR.
Today being NTR’s birth anniversary let us all fondly remember him and wish that his mission of voice to poor, voice to suppressed communities will be realized.
