ARE WE HEADING FOR
ANOTHER UNFRUITFUL PARLIAMENT SESSIONS??
In
a democracy, parliament is the highest decision making body. The demonetisation
of currency is historic decision and it is the prime responsibility of Government
to take public into confidence by discussing, deliberating on the concept, implementation
strategy, road map, and the current situation etc in parliament and see that
entire nation is taken into confidence in “Black fight”.
Unfortunately
the ruling party is trying to finds some lame excuses to avoid fruitful discussions
and certainly it will not go well with democracy. Mr. Azad’s statement on loss
of lives related to currency exchange and he relating it with oori killings need
not be colored as nation’s integrity issue. The spirit behind the speech has to
be well taken rather than diverting the attention on technical ground. Government
shall discuss the problems in detail and take proper steps to avoid
inconvenience to public.
It
is not proper on the part of finance minister to make statements in parliament,
like there is no problem for currency; banks are doing excellent job etc. If that is the view of Government what type of
discussions we expect in parliament. Public
voice has to be heard through MPs and then proper statements can be made.
Entire
country is interested and with government in fighting black money. But unfortunately the ruling alliance is
trying to provocate opposition and trying to get political mileage in upcoming
elections. The opposition’s
apprehensions on public inconvenience, steps taken to handle public
inconvenience when 84% of currency was made invalid, possible leaks to vested
interest groups, present currency management systems in place are justified and needs proper explanations
from Government.
There
are serious concerns expressed about leaks to bigwigs in advance, diversion of
currency, shortage of small notes, introduction of Rs.2000 notes and it’s the
responsibility of ruling party to clear these through proper inquiries
including joint parliament committee as demanded by opposition.
It
is expected from ruling alliance to ensure proper function of parliament in
next few days and give opportunity for everyone to express their views so that
the demonetisation decision is further strengthened with public confidence and
support.
