IS TRADITIONAL INDIAN FOOD FACING SURVIVAL THREAT??

It's very common practice that on Sundays people buy chicken, mutton, fish etc prepare in conventional form at home and enjoy the holiday with traditional food. Similarly vegetarians enjoy Paneer, speciality vegetable preparations at home.

With the advancement of Software, finance, service sector jobs with global exposure our youth are getting attracted to pre cooked, baked, imported foods and in no time pizzas, burgers, nuggets etc became very popular and finding inroads into our semi urban and rural areas too.

Similarly we Indian enjoy traditional fruits as part of food by consuming mangoes and banana with curd rice, take fruits after dinner. These practices are being replaced by natural ice creams, frozen fruit products (mainly imported) and having severe impact on our local fruits markets.

With agri commodities like rice, wheat , pulses, millets, chillies, turmeric etc trading at rock bottom prices due to slack demand how the Indian farming and farmers are going to survive? How GOI is going to realise its vision of doubling farmer income in four years?

Rs. 10/Kg onions, Rs 12 potato, Rs 14 Lady fingers, Rs 30 mangoes , Rs 18 banana in retail markets today in Hyderabad (with about 40 to 50% realisation to farmers ) how will our farmers depending on perishables will survive?

The rulers, civil society and all stake holders has to put a serious thought and see that demand is created for our traditional food so that the local consumption increase many fold and create internal demand.

EAT LOCAL THINK GLOBAL.
